Unions will 'shut down schools' if equal pay for young teachers is not restored

The two tier system is clearly bullshit and people should be paid according to their worth. However, I'm not convinced that young teachers are necessarily being underpaid.

English and geography teacher are already massively oversupplied. Surely pay equality (through pay increases for young grads) will just hurt these teachers by pushing more teachers into an already oversaturated labour market? Considering that so many teachers are already on part time or temporary contracts, I can only see this getting worse by increasing the pay of young teachers. On the other hand, maths and physics teachers should definitely be paid more, like they are in the UK, because there is a massive shortage of qualified teachers in this area.
