Your situation wasn't that good, but it is not unreasonable to be weirded out when things gets intimate and you suddenly gets up close to a tattoo like that. You tried being diplomatic, but he decided to interpret it the worst way possible, eacalate the situation and take off. His way of handling it is immature if you ask me and wildly exaggerated. I know it sucks to be in your shoes, but you aren't at fault here. This might be the end of the relationship, but you did nothing wrong in pointing out something that made you feel uncomfortable. And maybe he is still in the grieving process, but I don't see any way back from his reaction. So, it's sad but maybe for the best to move on
