When my boyfriend was coming off drugs for the last time, he went through a 6-month period where he regularly heard voices and saw men in black clothing looking through our windows. It was terrible. He was terrified for his life.
He was prescribed a medication to try to control the delusions, but the med he was given caused tardive dyskinesia: uncontrolled movement of the facial muscles. From Google: "Typical symptoms include facial grimacing, sticking out the tongue, sucking or fish-like movements of the mouth."
He immediately came off the med and was then too afraid to try a different one. So he had delusions and tardive dyskinesia. Thankfully both went away after a year or so.
As his girlfriend, it was exhausting (at times) to deal with. I cannot even begin to fathom what it was like for him. Thankfully he's three years clean now.
