Visiting Montréal, QC; Suggestions?

Path #1: lets go take a beer:

*Start at Sherbrooke metro *Go through Square Saint-Louis and take Prince Arthur to Saint-Laurent *Go north (turn right) on Saint-Laurent and walk to Rachel *Go east (turn right) on Rachel and stop to drink a third wave expresso at Café Névé *Eat a Natas (a custard Portuguese desert) at Patisserie Notre-Dame du Rosaire *Go back on Saint-Laurent and continue North up to Ave Laurier *Go west (left) on Laurier *Go on the corner of Laurier and Clark *Stop drink a pint of beer at Dieu du Ciel, one of the best craft brewery in Montreal!

On your way you will find these points of interest: *Juliette & Chocolat on Saint-Laurent. Great hot chocolate there (thick and rich full of endorphins!) *Epicerie Espagnole on Saint-Laurent for spanish specialities *La Vieille Europe on Saint-Laurent for european delicacies *Restaurant Jano on Saint-Laurent a good portuguese restaurant *Wiggle room on Saint-Laurent, a burlesque oldschool club with comedian and striptease (the kind wives and girlfriends tend enjoy... with boas and pasties) *Ripples ice cream shop on saint-laurent: 6X chocolate ice cream to feel alive and die young *Schwartz deli on saint-laurent: like it or not a classic smoked meat joint *The Main on saint-laurent: Schwartz's eternal rival right in front *Moishe's on saint-laurent: legendary steakhouse *Kitch'n swell shops on saint-laurent: Tiki! Western! Blue hawai! Roy Rogers! Little suzie homemaker! 40's and 50's classic vintage things and baubles and shirts and pants oh my! *Barfly on Saint-Laurent: legendary dive bar *Le Majestique on saint-laurent: new hip hipster oyster bar and all things fishy from the Toqué group *Patati patata on saint-laurent: mini and much loved burgers and fries *Big in Japan Bar on 4175 saint-laurent: almost on the corner of saint-laurent and rachel. Impossible to find if you don't know where it is. No signs. Only a brown door with a plaque written in japanese. Just before Patati Patata. Speakeasy where crooners, vieille chanson francaise and bossa nova lives. My favorite bar in Montreal. *Romados on Rachel: on your way to Café Névé. Legendary portuguese chicken *Divan Orange: small bar and music venue, friend of the indie scene! *Aux vivres on saint-laurent for vegetarians! *Rachelle Béry were precious people buy healthy expensive things *Special note on Raplapla not far from saint-Laurent and Villeneuve (turn left on Villeneuve). A great little boutique that does tough handmade chiffon dolls for babies and young kids to love and destroy. I'm a single guy with no kids in his 30's and even I love this stuff! *Sala Rossa and Casa del Popolo: legendary indie club and restaurant in front of each other. Ever wonder where bands like arcade fire and wolf parade took shape, look no further! In all honesty, you'll probably go listen to a band you never heard of and never will again.

Near dieu du ciel (one street over!) you have : *Kem Coba (ice cream!) *Wilensky's light lunch: our own Eisenberg sandwich shop, been there forever, still do custom malted beverages, staffed by genuinely rude and endearing old school staff *Fairmount bagel (get your bagels here!)

Legendary portuguese chicken *Divan Orange on saint-laurent: small bar and music venue, friend of the indie scene! *Kouaign Amann on Mont-Royal: Home of great croissants, far brettons and their eponemous pastry! *Bily Kun on Mont-Royal: popular club I never go to so I don't know much about it! *Les folles alliées on Mont-Royal: 20's, 30's and 40's vintage thrift shop! *La binerie Mont-Royal on Mont-Royal: where you will find the most authentic traditional quebec food. It wont be their best iterations (i.e.: Martin Picard and his ilk modernised a lot of them with gastronomic flair) but it will be a better representation of what french canadian families had on their table for generations. For us french canadians its christmas and new year's eve food... similar to your turkey on thanksgiving (baked beans, tourtières, cretons, shepherd's pie, pig feet, blood saussage, split pea soup, ect). You can have the stuff as a breakfast too! *La distributrice on Mont-Royal (the other side of saint-denis, on your way to Mont-Royal metro): hole in the wall with great third wave coffee to go! *Cremerie Meu Meu on Saint-Denis: another homemade ice cream shop! *Le valet d'coeur on Saint-Denis: home of boardgames and role playing games enthousiasts *Aux Deux Maries on Saint-Denis: my first proper second wave drip coffee in Montreal! Still a sentimental favorite *Rockaberry on Saint-Denis: you like pie? They have pie! *Arthur Quentin on Saint-Denis: High end cooking shop, high end reputation, high end prices! *Les Co'Pains d'abord on Rachel, just off Saint-Denis: my friend who stay on the plateau or used to stay swear by this bakery! *Brulerie Saint-Denis on Saint-Denis: one of my favorite second wave drip coffee house! *L'Barouf: French bar, home of the french supporter of football (soccer for us north americans)! *L'express on Saint-Denis: Montreal quintessential french bistro! *Kusmi on Saint-Denis: home of the legendary french flavored tea! *Les givrés on Saint-Denis: Ice cream and sorbet! *Bottine aux herbes on Saint-Denis: interesting herborist! We don't have a lot of those! Quirky little shop! *Disques beatnick on Saint-Denis: we still have some vinyl! *Lafleur on Saint-Denis: Great poutine! And hot dogs and hamburgers. *Le nil bleu: Ethiopian restaurant! *Mamie Clafoutis on Saint-Denis: Great bread, pastries, croissants. They also are supposed to have Canelés! *La Fabrique On Saint-Denis: Interesting restaurant. Good food but small portions though. Fell victim to that small plate craze that I dislike. *La Bulle au Carré on Saint-Denis after the square saint-louis: Crèpes bretonnes! *Shambala on Saint-Denis after the metro: tibetan restaurant!
