Weekly Discussion and Solidarity Thread for the week of May 21, 2018

I work for a Fortune 100 as an software engineer. Management is notorious at most big companies for destroying best practices (read: the shit that got Equifax in trouble is all too common).

We have a new manager, who is pretty cool as management goes and is vocal, much to the disdain of other managers, about the fact that management isn't really needed. He thinks people can manage themselves and the work can define itself.

And it's worked.... Quite well actually! We've outperformed many of the other engineering teams around the enterprise. We have a lot of fun and many of us work more instead of less. We embrace cutting edge technologies.

People all around are talking... "Why do we even need managers?" "Why are they telling us what to do?" We're doing it faster and better and it shows.
