Weekly Newbie Thread - Post questions about joining the AF or what a job is like here & here only - week of June 05

Hi Air Force community, I have a few questions:

How in demand are intelligence positions right now? Also, what scores would I need? I was always under the impression that my scores would need to be insane to get into intelligence, but I'm not sure, and I'm doubly not sure if my Army ASVAB scores translate in any way (the Air Force takes a different test, I've always been told).

My Army ASVAB scores, if they apply, were these: GT: 119 GM: 107 EL: 108 CL: 114 MM: 101 SC: 108 CO: 108 FA: 109 OF: 108 ST: 112 AFQT: 79 I took the ASVAB rather unexpectedly and hadn't studied a second for it at the time, so I assume I could bring these scores up if need be.

I would need a waiver for a chapter I got in the Army, are recruiters more likely to turn me away or work with me?

I'm 20 pounds overweight, should I get in shape before I even walk in a recruiter's office?

The same questions above apply to my interest in ROTC. I'm interested in both enlisting for intelligence positions and - if at all possible - commissioning through ROTC for a pilot slot/intelligence position. The commissioning thing is kind of a pipe dream for me given how competitive I hear it is and my intention to major in philosophy when I know there's a hard-on for STEM majors. I'd nonetheless like to know your opinions. I'm also 22 years old and have only 1 year of college under my belt, if that matters too much.

If I enlist, intelligence positions but especially the cryptolinguist position interests me. Is this comfy? Difficult? Challenging? Rewarding? Thanks :)
