Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 4/17/23 - 4/23/23

I wanted to make a post about this, this has Egyptian social media in a choke hold, many are so tired of afrocentrists but on the other hand it reminded me of just how racist Egyptians can be which made me kind of question if I wanted to post it here, the comments I've seen made by other Egyptians were so hurtful since I'm a "dark" by (north/Lower/Cairo) Egyptian standards which is where most of this rage is coming from. Some are trying to spin it off as "this is our Zionism, African Americans will replace us!" which is just hysterical. Others shit on Sudanese people as if Egypt and Sudan don't have a shared history and civilization. I saw a Nubian jewerly maker get shit on because "she doesn't look Egyptian", she does if you're from south/Upper Egypt.

There are other ways to show that we're still related to the same people that lived here 3000 years ago, Egyptian Arabic is heavily influenced by the Coptic language, Just yesterday we celebrated sham alnaseem, there was another festival that revolved around the Nile but basically died out due to the construction of the Aswan high dam in the 20th century, farmers still rely on the Pharaonic calendar and we (or I guess depending on where you live in Egypt) use the months as euphemisms for the climate, we have a lot of sayings that aren't Arabic

I kind of take issue with people saying "just make a documentary about the 25th Nubian dynasty" given the message being pushed, it makes as much sense as an Irish-American linking themselves to Russian and Slavic history. Other African civilisations exist outside of Egypt and Sudan it makes me sad they always focus on this one part of the whole continent.

With that out of the way, the trailer for the documentary is kind of hilarious, the background actors for average Ancient Egyptians have very modern haircuts like a fade and the infamous "I don't care what they taught you in school" line.
