I had someone I was close to accuse me of 'stalking' them and sending messages to people they worked with and their boyfriend.

The things that did happen:

• Her boyfriend asked me if she was cheating on him and I was honest about it.
• She put me down as a reference and I declined to be one.

It's been over a year, and she's still on about it. I had my lawyer get anything she sent to the court, and she has been denied for tons of requests that are everything from an emergency protective order, harassment, stalking -- seems like anything she can try to get to work. I've had multiple calls from police officers who seem tired of it at this point.

I think a lot of it results from her wanting to blame someone for her poor choices. Unfortunately I'm the target. I've had a few people tell me she bad mouths me on a regular basis. My lawyer says I can't go for slander until it impacts my life, but as soon as it does the paper work is ready. In the mean time I'm just polite whenever people bring it up and change the topic as my lawyer advised.

tl;dr don't hook up with someone you aren't 100% sure isn't in a relationship
