What book would you recommend to people who haven't finished a book since high-school?

Lone survivor for those who want to live through words what the Afgan war really was. Once I started this book, even as a vet who had lived through some of that shit, I couldn't put it down.

A Voyage for Madmen for those who enjoy sailing and want to envision the endeavor of sailing around the world alone. As a sailor who has raced many miles offshore, this was a riveting read.

For the history buffs, the entire Marcus Didius Falco series by Lindsey Davis. Start at the beginning and read the whole series in order. She managed to create an entire world in my mind about a private detective in ancient Rome and the trials and tribulations while trying to be historically accurate to the best of her abilities. Fantastic series through and through and as a student of Latin growing up, it really helped tie the ancient world into relevance of what was studied.
