Objectively? None. Life’s too short to let others dictate your reading preferences. The closest one might get to an objective answer to this question would be the annotated editions of Animorphs (I’m in the process of writing them, so there’s that).

Sarcasm aside (is it though?) your question is thought-provoking, and such a list must naturally contain books which most people will thoroughly disagree with. My attempt is rather small in its wake. The Classic-y stuff.

The Odyssey and the Illiad. Thus begins my practice of looping several books together into one entry. Homer’s classics are inseparable, and a guaranteed introduction to the field of human literature. No one’s ever done the Hero’s Journey better.

Something by Joyce. It’s impossible to get through this list without mentioning perhaps

When it comes to books, I have been inspired by this quote by Sir Francis Bacon. I am going to list the books that have been major influence on my life and and helped me how I see through the world, understand it and appreciate it. Most of the books have left a lasting impression on me in one way or other. Some have given me a deep understanding of humanity, nature, history while some have probed my interest further and grew my interest and curiosity to look further. If you just google “top 20 books of all time”, you will be overwhelmed with countless recommendation by lifehack, penguin, independent and plethora of blogs. Most of those recommending more or less same books, mostly classical literature or self-help books. It never made sense to me. I was an average reader with no real taste of classic literature or a major in psychology. The recommendation list never helped me or didn't much spark my curiosity. I was and have been on my own when it comes to picking a book and I always had one thing to look, a gripping, sensible, thought provoking fiction or a book that helps me extending my knowledge and improves my wisdom. Below list is my journey from 2005 till last week, my most cherished books. books that I suggest to my friends, books that I want my kids to read and books that I gift. 1984, Ulysses, War and Peace, Crime and Punishment,Alchemist…. Naaaaah, my list has none of those because either I am still not prepared for such classics or they just did not help an average reader like me. So this list is not inspired by any of your google stuff. It is just my journey of celebration of good reads and my own self. You will also notice that It’s not even 25. Why? Now, while I had many more books to add in to the list but either those are just a little more advanced in their own field or are complete fiction (though with good taste) but that would just be your-another-book kinda items. But If i do notice that I have missed some, I will add them. For now, This is it. A No BS and completely my own list of books
