What do the British learn in history class?

We were taught about colonialism in general terms, but no detail on any specific country... Although given the number of countries we had in our empire it would have been a long topic if we detailed them all!

It isn't covered in great detail (If I remember correctly mostly as an introduction to the World War 1 theme, as European colonialism was the reason the war spread so globally so quickly) but then most of our history isn't... Fitting thousands of years of history into two hours a week for a few years isn't easy!

But within the extent to which it is covered we generally see ourselves as the bad guys. In some of the territories we occupied we are told that the legacy is probably partially benevolent (Left behind advances in infrastructure, hygiene, medicine, etc.) but that this doesn't justify our occupation or how those already there were treated.
