What is causing many youth of today (18-22) to be so depressed and not have a passion for anything?

My view is similar to others here but I have more personal reasons. Some of the external issues (economy, shitty wages, layoffs) have created a weird feedback loop where it's caused my family to have problems which then causes extra stress on me.

On top of bad economy, bad jobs/pay, school debt I have a narcissistic parent who has substance abuse issues and in a way has caused our family numerous financial hardships. Ironically they're the one putting food on the table at the moment so we're stuck in a rut.

So now I'm going to school for something I hope I can enjoy and make a decent living with IF I can become skilled enough in it and find a decent work place that will hire me.

So on top of the external problems I have these internal issues in the home. Expectations are high. I've been scoring high (3.7) but I still don't feel like I'm being prepared enough for a working environment.

Honestly I feel like it's just luck at this point. If I make it out on the other side of this doing mediocre to well then I've won the lottery.
