What did you learn the hard way?

I felt so embarrassed when I was 26 years old and had to have my dad co-sign my car loan. I had new credit because most of my life before that I only really dealt with cash. About 12 months into the loan I had already paid off 75% of the 3 year loan with additional payments, but I had screwed up my auto pay for the monthly payment by around $1.50. I didn't notice and I half-assedly screen my calls (if I don't know the number, I'll ignore it), so after 3-4 months my dad gets a call saying that I'm behind on my payments. I didn't even have a reason for it on the phone which was most embarrassing. "I'll have to call the bank and figure out what's going on" probably sounds a lot like "I'm irresponsible with money and haven't been able to make my car payment, and I'm putting off dealing with it". He had even said how I was the only one that he would co-sign a loan for because I was responsible with money.

I know that it's just how the system works and that it was absolutely my fault that it happened, but I can't stop a tiny bit of me from being pissed at Bank of America for getting uppity about me being less than $10 behind on my monthly payments while being $4000 ahead on principal.
