"What dirtbike should I get?" -Megathread-

Location - North Georgia

Weight - 170lb 5 10"

Riding experience - None really. My neighbor is going to show me the ropes on a 125cc dirt bike he has, I'll get the basics understood just driving in our yard.

Riding area - backroads and trails mostly, at the edge of the suburbs.

Budget - $2000

I'm looking at CRF250's and DRZ400s.

There is a ton of CRF's around my price range. They seem like a perfect dirtbike to ride trails without worrying about weight. The problem I have with it is that I can't find any that are street-legal, and I'm slightly hesitant to put together a kit and get a title registered, as I've heard it's a hassle. It would kill a lot of the fun if I had to put it on a hitch or trailer every time I wanted to ride.

The DRZ's look like a lot of fun, and I fit on one well. They seem better for the street, but still very capable on the dirt. I like this more than anything else, but everyone around me is asking $4k+.

Is there a bike I haven't considered yet that would fit my needs? I want to mostly ride in the dirt and trails, but still be able to drive around cars/light traffic without being anxious.
