What do you feel like you're missing out on?

Happiness in celebrating birthdays.

When I was young, I would plan some kind of party or gathering with my friends on my birthday. It never went perfectly, but whenever I made a mistake in the planning my parents would latch onto it and berate me for hours on end. They’d yell at me when I made the mistake, mumble underneath their breath while they’re doing their thing, and when they saw me look sad they’d tell me how I’m being ungrateful about what I have and yell at me again. I kid you not once they woke up and saw I was crying to myself late at night at 2AM, and without asking me what was wrong they told me I shouldn’t have had any birthday celebrations if I was just going to be upset about it then went back to sleep.

Nowadays my birthday keeps falling inline with exam season, but I’d rather have to do an exam that day and spend the entire day working than to attempt to celebrate it. It was strange because they don’t really get upset at me UNLESS it was my birthday. On any other day they were just normal parents who sometimes have small anger issues.
