What is the general consensus of Maserati's?

for starters, they're owned by Ferrari. It's ferrari performace, for a little less money. Personally, i think they're much better looking than some of the recent ferraris, and they sound deadly.

I recently went for a ride in a friends Maserati GT. It was awesome, but ultimately I came a way a little underwhelmed from what I was expecting. Its an absolutely beautiful car inside and out, and it sounded amazing, but only with the windows down. Sadly it wasn't loud enough to really get your blood pressure going with the windows up because of so much sound deadening. This is normal for luxury cars though so I let it slide. Then we went down to the valley below my house and he put his foot in it. Let me say, sounded great, was definitely pretty fast, but that wasn't what I was impressed with.

At over 100mph it just soaked up the uneven and bumpy pavement like it was an ice cream sunday. I had gone those speeds before in my own cars, but it was always a more exciting a la sketchy affair. The truth is, I was hoping for an adrenalin rush and more excitement. While it put a smile on my face, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. It was quick and fast, but not as fast as I thought it was going to be compared to other sports cars I've driven and been in.

I came away realizing I enjoyed my ride in a friends first gen viper more than I did in the new maserati, and the supercharged mustang I drove was faster and more exciting. What I did learn though is where your money goes. Of course you can always build something faster or more exciting with your money, but the beauty of the car and svelt soft leather interior, the comfortable ride at any speed, and the big pronged M for Maserati on the front are wonderful things that make that price seem a little more worth it.

Cars are special, and different just like all of us are as people. That big GT Coupe was awesome and I liked it, but it wasn't me. It wasn't raw enough, it didn't have the excitement I had been hoping for when I sat in the car. I like stripped out, loud, and fast cars that are near to the point of having no business on the public roads. That isn't everyone though and that's okay, in fact that's wonderful because if everyone thought like me that car wouldn't have been built. That would be sad because for my friend, and probably a lot of you out there, that would be a perfect car.
