I'm self employed. I don't make a ton, but enough to live on and save some for retirement. There are pros and cons, like every job. I can wear whatever I want since I work alone and from home, but it sucks having to pay both sides of the employment tax, and having to do all the bookkeeping. I work 365 days a year which sounds stressful, but it's also nice having a routine and an excuse whenever I need one. After school I had a few low wage jobs, and even worked with a career coach (that my folks kindly paid for) but after a lot of personality tests and discussed he agreed that I'd probably be best off on my own. It may pay to have a few appointments with someone like a coach who can help you figure out your strengths and weaknesses, and maybe help arrange for you to shadow or talk with someone who currently is doing the job you're considering.
