What was life like in high school / college with no internet?

we had internet in highschool but it was dial-up and people didn't really live online as much as they do now; it was used really for like reading news online and maybe chatting on AOL with a handful of friends late at night. So I definitely would say that throughout my high school and even college years, most of my social life was experienced independent of the internet.

So having said that, the reality is that I honestly have NO idea how the hell me and my friends ever did anything. There were no group texts, no evites, no Facebook messenger, and yet me and my friends would get together most nights after school to hang out, and just about every single weekend in huge numbers. I honestly couldn't tell you how we all got together, who orchestrated the gatherings, and how we decided to do the things we did, but without fail, it'd end up being a crew of anywhere from 15 to 25 kids running around the boroughs of NYC just finding random shit to do. I know it's easy to romanticize eras in the past, and it's definitely WAY more convenient today due to the prevalence of smart phones, but there truly was something awesome and magical about the organic nature of meeting and gathering friends without the use of technology.
