What major events do you think will take place in the next 50 years?

The Queen dying is going to be a crazy event here in the UK.

Some things that will/are projected to happen following the death:

  • All BBC channels will immediately cease programming and screen a televised notification of her death. BBC newscasters run regular Queen's death announcement drills and keep mourning attire on hand at all times after the newscaster who announced the QM's death was lambasted for wearing a red tie.

-Twelve days of public mourning will commence. The Queen will lie in state and be viewable by the public. Vigil over the body will alternately be held by the palace guard and, sometimes, her grandsons. The BBC will not air comedy during this period.

-The Funeral is projected to be viewed live by around three billion, and be attended by every major foreign dignitary. An unofficial bank holiday will be observed.

-Stocks will plummet and the UK economy will weather an extremely rough financial patch.

-Charles ascends the throne immediately upon her last breath - the can never be no regent - but his coronation may not occur for as much as a year. He will probably take the regnal name 'King Charles' but he may also elect to take 'Philip', 'George' and 'Arthur'.

-Every instance of the queen's image - postage stamps, currency, seals - will be cycled out over time. Every instance of her "EiiR" handle will be removed over a much longer period. This includes from public monuments, police badges and even the sides of postboxes -upon which her handle is engraved.

-The commonwealth will probably shrink dramatically. Royalist movements in commonwealth nations gain a great deal of their support from the Queen's personal popularity and beloved status. This is compounded by the significance symbolic power of the monarch's death.

-The mourning in the UK will be unimaginable. People walked around in a daze after Diana died and it's STILL a sore point for a lot of people. The death of Liz 2 will cause emotional pandemonium across the country and probably internationally. People in this country and around the globe really fucking love the Queen.
