What was the most brutal incident you have ever witnessed?

At about 5:30 in the morning I'm on my way to work, half blind from sleep while trying to drink a cup of tea and drive, I was approaching an intersection at the bottom of a hill. On my left was a number of flailing ducklings and ducks who had obviously been run over and what was worse was that I could see a car that had struck one of the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill and a man in his bathrobe was covering a body with what looked like a blanket.

When I got to the bottom of the hill I pulled over and got out asking what had happened if he saw and he said that he was getting the paper at the bottom of his driveway when a man in an F-150 had T-boned this woman in the intersection and that she had struck the pole and was ejected from her car. After the impact with her car he fled the scene and ran over a family of ducks crossing the road further up the hill. I really had no idea how to react, I've been trained in CPR in a hospital and done my advanced first aid through the military but when the man sat down on the curb I locked up and sat beside him. I asked if she was okay and he just stared forward and sighed, then he said he had called the police on his cell phone and we just waited.

A couple neighbors came out and one of them got a big card board box and began rounding up the baby ducklings into it. It was fairly far away (50-100m) but I still heard the women suck air between her teeth in horror. When the paramedics and everyone else showed up the cops said I didn't have to be there anymore as the guy was the only real witness. So I got a card and left for home. The accident had only occurred a couple kilometers from my house so when I got home I checked my phone and called my boss letting him know what happened. I got a call around lunch from my mum, who is an emergency room nurse, about how a cop she knew approached her saying that he met me this morning at the scene of a really bad car accident and that I looked pretty shook up about it. When she asked how I was I just kinda sat there with the phone of speaker and sighed, I have always been quite the talker but that just sort of fried my brain.

TLDR- Didn't witness the incident but was privy to the aftermath.
