What do people claim is "elitist", but really isn't?

I've been in relationships since I was 16. I'm 49 now. I regret most of those relationships. I was raised with the idea "you have to have someone, others you are a total loser, and make sure they look good, others doesn't matter who they are". I wasn't picky. I should've been. I should've been so fucking picky I would've been single until 30, and even after that if needed. The amount of negativity, trauma and sadness those failed (some even abusive) relationships have caused in my life is tremendous. I've been single now for years, and I won't have another relationship in my wishlist, unless a real miracle happens. And maybe not even then because I simply had enough.

I can't stand this bs that you have to be in a relationship, others you are "left without" or somehow abnormal or lacking. Being alone is 100 times better options than just settling into being with someone who you really don't care about. Being single is a perfectly valid way of living, and very simple one. If someone wants a simple life, it is not your problem.
