At what point in your net worth did you notice changes in friends, family, peers treating you different because of how much you made?

I mean it could go both ways.

I have a couple of friends from very wealthy backgrounds who are embarrassed to talk about their family / growing up rich and it's a big insecurity for them to the point where other people can feel uncomfortable around them.

In my case some of my family was jealous as soon as I got a few high-profile college acceptances 10 years ago. In particular I was somewhat close with one of my aunts until I heard she was talking negatively about me so now I just don't make an effort to stay in touch.

Doesn't even have to be with money unfortunately... people just kind of suck sometimes and you have to work to find those people who will be happy to support you through your successes and failures.

As far as money handouts go, it's up to you to set a limit. I like to treat my younger cousins to meals / drinks when I invite them. I'd always give to my brother or mother or handful of best friends. Other people I would just say no.
