What’s a family secret you didn’t get told until you were older that made things finally make sense?

That my grandfather was a high ranking officier during the war, and later he earned the place of a mayor equivalent in a major city (without elections and so, but assigned). Then there are certain political events that forces him to hide in somewhere and then resume his job after the event ended. Due to his status, my family sometimes receive “benefits” in many situations.

Even now he's close to 90 and retired, some government officials will visit him during holidays and he is receiving regular pension that is greater than my monthly income. Occasionally the government officials will hand him “gifts” that is far greater than my annual income.

I have a great relationship with my grandpa, but I also smell the corruption of the system.
