I don't know what to tell you. I'm not in a top 5 city, yet almost anywhere I go in town I can find an open wifi connection. If it's a spot people are at frequently, it either has a business-provided guest wifi, or an Xfinity spot.
If I go out to the middle of a field? Sure, I'll need to use data. But as I mentioned above, I don't think it's realistic to aim for that level of coverage.
Nah my argument is we'll never even reach 20%
If <20% still covers the majority of places people are frequently at, that's probably good enough to greatly impact cell providers who rely on large numbers of people using a large amount of data, right? Verizon isn't going to stay in business by relying on rural farmers paying for tons of data.
