I will agree to an extent. Rap music does, pardon my pun... get a bad rap. There are cultural issues surrounding rap music that does lead to other ethnicities looking down upon it because it is generally associated with the artist being black, and racism is nothing if not prevalent. On the other hand, I do not appreciate any form of music that is extremely vulgar in the sense of objectifying women or glorifying violence and drugs. Rap is not the only type of music that does this, but it does have a substantial quantity of the genre that does. Rap music that is written from the soul to encapsulate the struggles of a minority or to celebrate their culture are every bit as much art as classical music or opera.
