What is the stupidest thing you've ever had a roommate do?

Back in college (frosh dorms) I had this weird roommate. He didn't talk to me or either of our other two suite-mates much. Spent most of his time at the library or doing various 'club' activities.

One day he lost his car keys. Then accused me and another suite-mate of stealing them. We were both confused and told him we honestly didn't care enough to steal his keys. --It's not like anyone parked near the dorm, there were half a dozen school lots frosh could park in, all 3-5 miles away, having someone's keys in no way guaranteed you could find their car--

Next day I got back from class to find a [note for us]](http://i.imgur.com/dUdp4nj.jpg), telling us to return the keys that day or he would report us to the housing director. Meh.

It got stupid when I went to make some ramen and discovered he'd left a digital recording device hidden in a bowl over my desk, to record anything we and I might say about allegedly stealing his keys in response to the note.

Clever plan really. Until you considered the fact that under state law recording a private conversation without 1-party consent was a felony. I took the time to google this information and print out a few copies of ORC 2933.52 after finding the recording device.

When he returned he soon found I had discovered and confiscated his recording device. He went directly to the housing director and told her I had stolen the recorder that he needed for taking notes. He also told her that he was using it to catch us confessing to stealing his keys. So the hall director came up to our room, furious that I was harassing this poor guy and stealing his stuff. I sat there, quietly listening to her until she'd finished huffing and puffing, and demanded I return the recorder and keys or she'd call the police. I calmly said 'Yes, please call the police'. --I figured I'd have a fun time citing ORC 2933.52 to the housing director, but the cops? This was too good to be true--

The housing director stayed there in the room with everyone until the campus police arrived. The housing director informed them I had stolen the recording device and refused to return it before inviting him to tell them everything. The cops did their cop thing, and listened to him tell the tale of lost (/stolen) keys and attempted sting while I sat there.

When the cops felt they had heard enough, they turned to me and asked if I was going to return the recording device. That's when I finally got to tell them I'd gladly turn it over to them, as evidence of the felony they had just heard him confess to committing. I handed out my highlighted copies of ORC 2933.52 and asked if they were going to arrest him...

Stupid? Losing your car keys.

Stupider? Accusing people of stealing them.

Stupidurr? Committing a felony to try to catch the --innocent-- alleged perpetrators.

Stupidest? Having the cops called to recover the evidence of your felony and confessing in front of them.
