The first minute or so of the first episode has nudity, at least 2 different women have their breasts on full display.

Several graphic sex scenes, becoming much more prevalent through the second season. Oral sex between women in a prison environment is shown about once per episode. Softcore only.

During an episode in season one, a photograph of a women's vagina is shown several times. The photo is graphic and displays the woman's labia and vaginal orifice.

Violence & Gore EditHistory 7/10 Some violence never graphic

Being set in a women's prison, the series is very much like other prison shows, but, being on Netflix (where there are no censors), much of the violence is unflinchingly graphic.

Violence is infrequent, and only in a few scenes strong (in season 1). Season 2 is far more graphic in nature. Murders, beatings, blood, bullying, intimidation, etc. all shown. Season 3 is supposed to be much more intense.

Vivid and violent descriptions of various killings and deaths are present in various episodes.

Many prolonged sequences of inmates violently threatening each other.

A character is heard being shot off-screen.

An inmate strangles a guard; she is pulled off as the guard gasps for air.

An inmate and is made to look like they committed suicide. The character is then seen hanging from a ceiling pipe with a cable around their neck.

A woman threatens another woman with a razor knife; she then proceeds to cut her hand with it slowly, with blood pouring out of the wound and then smears the blood all over the victim's chest.

Two women get into an intense argument while both holding certain sharp objects. One is then kicked in the groin and elbowed in the back, then on the ground repeatedly and violently punched in the face multiple times. Blood is seen splattering on the ground and out of one's mouth.

A later flashback to the above scene shows a character exiting the building and, mistaking a woman for someone else, punches her in the face twice.

After stealing a prison van, a woman swerves off the road .

Profanity EditHistory 10/10

Frequent uses of just about every profane and derogatory term in existence (i.e. "fuck", "shit", "pussy", "slut", "whore", "bitch", "bastard", etc.)

"Cunt" is said around 15 - 20 times

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking EditHistory 8/10

Many characters are addicted to hard drugs and alcohol. Smoking/tobacco is a main recurring theme in season 2.

Frightening/Intense Scenes EditHistory 7/10

Although infrequent, violence is intense and frightening, but is mostly verbal (in season 1). Season 2 is far more graphic in nature. Murders, beatings, blood, bullying, intimidation, etc. all shown.

Some scenes are emotionally intense, due to the show's subject matter.

Certain scenes contain a sense of strong threat.

The BBFC in the UK gave every single episode, bar one, a 15 rating due to strong language, sex, nudity and sex/drug references. Episode 7 of Season 1 ('Blood Donut') carries an 18 rating for strong sexualised nudity.

Suggested MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong sexual content, graphic nudity, pervasive language, drug material and some brutal violence.
