What was a widely accepted truth that turned out be a lie?

It's much easier to ban something altogether than deal with the fact that 99% of users wouldn't appropriately sanitize themselves and their possessions before coming to work around very sick people. Asthmatics; patients who need to quit smoking and may be trying; CF patients...there's a hundred different kinds of people who should not be smelling the smoke lingering in your sleeve when you're providing care.

Even the employees themselves, even from an employment standpoint alone let alone health and finance, are probably better off being forced to quit rather than constantly being policed for sanitation and adherence by administration.

"Fucking insane" is just an ignorant, reactionary response.
