What would qualify a character to be considered a mainstay of the franchise?

if they have been in 3 or more successive games, and their kits that change too much. you might as well mainstay them because fighting games last YEARSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. so 2-3 games? is like 15 years.

sakura is a cute asian female, with a pretty dope fighting style, and her outfits are very on point no matter if she is dressed like a karate girl. or a annocer like she is in SF5. everything about her. is cute.

Deejay. is a Big black zanny looking charater. his fighting style is weird, and his models back in the day are awful. and as you said forgettable.

the reason balrog works instead of deejay, as because he is mike tyson. thats it. and his fighting style is accessible.

and while i def think 3rd strikers should be in this particular game... "nxt generation" stuff never truly sticks around.
