What's an American problem you're too European to understand?

I get your point, but given that it's a stupid ass point, I've elected to ignore it.

The national draft is a call to DEFEND your country, it calls for all able bodied men (and now women) to be drafted when there is a shortage of soldiers to defend or attack an area. In ww2 we had been attacked by foreign powers, so the draft was officially enacted.

It was misused in Vietnam.

But joining the military today is a choice, until such a time that we are called upon again to fight for our country. But drinking and smoking are no different, and you are putting your own desires into the mix without actually thinking about health.

We have a FDA for a reason, they're the ones who control that, and they have scientists who actively, everyday, study the effects of different drugs and alcohol on the body, including cigarettes.
