It's a zombie novel series set in our real world, where people already know what zombies are and the military acts like a military instead of chickens with their heads cut off.
I'm still mildly obsessed with zombies, even though all the books/tv shows/movies/comics/games seem to take place in a universe where everyone is a moron.
So I figured I'd just write my own 'better' version.
One of my biggest pet peeves with zombie media is how nearly all start long after whatever happened happens. Everybody seems afraid to deal with those first few days. They just explain it away with an "Oh by the way, 99% of the world died last week". (We'll see how TWD handles it with their new spin-off...) Even World War Z seemed to zoom right by the 'shit going down' part, since it written in an interview format with people talking about the past. Even though a lot of people have their problems with the movie, the opening scene from the remake of Dawn of the Dead still tops my list of 'Best Zombie Anything'. There's actual terror and confusion and mayhem, instead of the "I'm a super tough ex-military man and I'm going to grab my AR-15 and my go-bag and jump in my tricked out 4x4 and go kick ass" we usually get.
Nobody writes a story about all the cops and ambulances going to respond to all those initial calls for help. Or someone going to pick up their child from the elementary school once they realize what is happening. Or the man all by himself out in the woods, chopping wood and tending his garden and going fishing. Or a realistic reaction of the US military. Or the Russian military. Or the Chinese military. Or how these superpowers would work together or against one another. Nobody writes about nuclear power plants. Or Amazon shipping distribution centers.
A lot of people are tired of zombies, and for good reason.
But there's always going to be fans.
And nobody has written an Anne Rice/ASOIAF-quality version of World War Z that starts at the beginning and takes place in our reality where everyone already knows what zombies are, so I am.
