What's Jail Like?

If you are going to court, wear three white sports bras, three white cotton underwear and a couple pair of plain white socks. Also three plain white tee shirts. All under your court clothes. You can often keep them in the housing units , but you won't get to bring a carry on type of bag. You can usually have one pair of untinted prescription glasses, or regular contacts. Pretty much everything else you need, like envelopes and writing paper you can buy on commissary. Bring a little money, less than $100. That will be deposited into an account for you. Trust me, you'll want to buy some commissary chocolate bars to get you through. You will get basic hygiene items for free, but decent pads, toothpaste and shampoo will be for sale once or twice per week on the commissary order. Friends or family can add to your account if you run low. Also, don't share your account pin number with anybody!!!

As for treatment, unless you are a complete trainwreck, you will be in group housing with everybody else. Mainly shoplifters and drug users with poor impulse control. Jail isn't generally dangerous. It's murderously boring, though. Keep your mind busy reading books from the library cart. As a female, and a former jail deputy, I wish you luck.
