I had a mentor in my career field that I became good friends with.

she was my boss/friend/mentor.

She started off giving me career advice and tips, to us talking every day and joking. She would always talk about how much potential I had.

She was an executive while I was a much lower position.

Anyway, one day I arrive late to work and I walk by her office to say hello and I overheard her on her cellphone inviting her old friend back for my position.

She says “just say the word and this person is out. I won’t waste another second with them and I’ll bring you in.”

I guess this was just business, but I guess I was too naive.

She had told me 100 times “I got your back” and to hear her plan to kick me out so easily really hurt. Felt like a betrayal.
