What I more freaky is that I always could snap my fingers, but reading your post I looked how I did it, and discovered I do it exactly how you described. Yet I've realised from your post I actually didn't know the mechanics of it nor has anybody ever taught me how to do it.
I just deliberately misplaced the ring finger now based on your post and sure enough it sounds rubbish.
So how the hell all these years did I know where to place the ring finger when I didn't even know the ring finger placement was an important part of the snap?!
Edit: And now I've discovered that with very subtle changes to the placement of the ring finger I have actually improved the snap. I would have never learned this through trial and error because I never knew the ring finger placement was anything to do with it.
Edit edit: And maybe answering my own question I think maybe I only placed the ringer finger where I did because that is where it felt natural and comfortable, and looks like I just lucked out that that happened to be the right position for a successful snap.
God damn this feels life changing. I guess it actually isn't, but it feels like it should be!
