What's something your employer did that instantly killed employee morale?

I could go on a 3 hour rant with all the shit from my last job, but I’ll pick one of the more ridiculous things.

I worked in a lab. I got in before the rest of the lab staff and would be working by the time everyone else got in. I’m going to preface this story by saying I had zero customer interface. No one was ever in my lab that didn’t work there.

Typical morning: me working. Someone walks in. I look up, say hey/morning/etc, go back to working. One day my lab manager decides that I’m not friendly enough because I don’t stop what I’m doing and smile every time one of my coworkers walks by my bench. As in she literally wanted me to be less productive by stopping my work to smile every time someone walked by in a busy lab where people were constantly moving around grabbing supplies and equipment. This extended to another coworker to the point where multiple of us were written up for not smiling enough.
