What's something your employer did that instantly killed employee morale?

My husband used to be security guard for our local public transit. He was stationed at one of the main bus depots. One night, a bus driver posted a video on the driver's union site of some asshat jumping the fence at another location and captioned it with something like, "Where's the security guard?"

Literally overnight, the company started making every guard stand at the entrance of of their location for the entire shift and ask for ID for anyone who wants to enter. No ID, no entrance. No exceptions. They even started sending management to check on each location several times a day to make sure this was being enforced. This meant my husband had to turn away drivers who had buses loaded with passengers, drivers he had known for years. All because of this stupid video. And of course, the drivers were pissed and took it out on the guards. Management's response was a collective shrug.

My husband quit within a few weeks of this happening and he personally knew of 5 other guards that were quitting as well. Word was they lost about a fifth of their guards over it.
