When the ai sexbots are released

Which sums up both sides. Looking through the list of cons, i can see mainly 2 variations of the same arguments: it is immoral or it is tied to cime. I'd say the first argument is simply a personal world view. Some people believe alcohol or Marijuana are immoral too. The second argument is imo precisely because it's illegal and the only place to have sex work is in tbe criminal world.

Well it doesn’t sum up my side because I’m not arguing either of those things. I am against the full legalization of prostitution because countries with legal prostitution have higher rates of sex trafficking..

There are two theories on the legalization of prostitution. one theory is that it will reduce sex trafficking because consumers will choose legal and consenting prostitutes which would cause traffickers operating illegally to be pushed out of the business. There’s a couple of things wrong with this conclusion, one issue is that trafficked women are cheaper so expecting consumers to choose non-trafficked women when they have a price incentive to choose trafficked women doesn’t make much sense, the second issue is that brothels who are trafficking women aren’t exactly open about it so most consumers are not going to know if a sex worker is a trafficked woman or not.

The second theory is that expanding prostitution markets increases the demand to a point where it can not be met through legal means, which causes increases in trafficking. The data supports this theory, those are the facts. If there was data that supported the idea that legal prostitution decreased trafficking I would be all for it, but that’s just not the case.

And i also want to point out the inherent classicism to not allowing 'affordable' sex. Society accepts that it's perfectly ok for rich people to have a boytoy or sugarbaby. That's all perfectly within the law and accepted even though it is exactly the same as escorting except it's long term.

I can’t believe I listed all the various ways sex workers are traumatized while performing their jobs and your response was that it’s classist for sex workers to expect that they be paid well. That is truly astounding, sex work is not a necessity it is luxury it is not an entitlement. It isn’t food, healthcare, education, shelter, water, etc.

What do you think happens to demand when prices get way lower? What do you think happens to supply when the pay is substantially less desirable? How do you think these changes are accounted for?

And remember what happened when alcohol was outlawed in the usa? The alcohol industry immediately descended into crime BECAUSE people will drink alcohol and the only place to get it was in the criminal world. And you know what got alcohol back out of the criminal influence sphere? Legalization.

I mean people use this argument against gun control all the time, but we know it doesn’t apply to gun control because numerous countries have demonstrated prohibiting guns is effective. My point being every industry is unique and requires nuance. “It worked for the alcohol industry so it will work for this” is not a good argument because the sex industry and the alcohol industry are two completely different and complex markets.

I know we're not going to agree but if history proves anything, s3x work exists everywhere in ever age when humans are alive. Repressing it does not work. Never has. The only thing we can decide is if it happens between willing and consenting adults who are protected by a legal framework, orbetween people who are under the influence of the criminal underworld without rights.

I really don’t need a man who has never been a sex worker to explain sex work to me (somebody who was in the industry for 5 years). We could agree if the data supported the idea that legalization removes influence of the criminal underworld, but it doesn’t. Current data show an increase in trafficking, those are the facts.
