When did you start playing and how has it affected you life?

I initially started playing piano back when I was around six years old. I don't remember exactly how long I had been taking lessons ( 3 months? ) before my parents decided to cancel because I was too busy between school, sports, boy scouts, and video games to be able to put in any decent practice. I wanted to continue taking lessons anyway but my brother also decided he'd rather play video games so my parents basically decided that it was "both or none" and that was the end of that discussion.

Fast forward a little over a decade later. I've always loved piano music and listened to it constantly but it was around this time that I had discovered the Piano Collections albums of the Final Fantasy series and fell in love with them. So I went and bought a $150 keyboard from Target, bought some music books and decided to teach myself (figured it would work since I am self taught in guitar as well) in hopes of one day being able to play those songs. After several months, I had moved away to college and I never learned anything more than just the basics.

I'm 26 now and decided 6 months ago that I really wanted to learn and having the money to actually afford a teacher or nicer instrument, I bought a nice digital piano and found a good teacher. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and making decent progress considering how long I've been playing. I can't play any complicated songs yet but even so, I love coming home, plugging in my headphones and just playing after a long day of work. It's just so relaxing and something I truly enjoy doing. It's as if for those moments that I'm playing, all my problems seem to fade and nothing else matters.
