Barely related but my neighbor in the summertime starts hammering at 8am every Saturday and Sunday morning. Our bedroom window is on the side of the house like 30 feet from where this moron decided to do random construction so it really sucks. They also have a tiny dog that when let out loses it's mind, non stop barking. We have two dogs who don't bark but I know it was kind of luck of the draw so we never talked to them about the noise.
My girlfriends sister got a new job and for about 6 weeks should would pick her up at 3pm to babysit for 3 hours once a week. When she would get to the house she would beep to let her know she was there. The wife of the hammering man would open up her window and start yelling to keep it down she was trying to sleep. I was out of town at the time and actually thought my girlfriend was joking when she told me. The level of obliviousness was so crazy I still only half believed her until I got home and witnessed the woman do it myself.
The previous week my girlfriend spoke to her and said, you know your dog has been yapping for years and your husband wakes us up every weekend. She responded with "Well dogs will be dogs and my husband only gets free time on the weekends."
Well at this point I had enough of that nonsense. I am up late most nights, I get groceries a lot at 3-4am. When I come home I now make sure to slam my car doors loudly, press car alarm multiple times etc. I also make sure to beep in the driveway during the day time to let my girlfriend know I am home.
This went on for a while and one day I pull in and notice their son who is around my age is in the driveway. I do my regular asshole beep and get out of the car. He is a pretty scary looking guy and approaches me, tells me if the beeping doesn't stop he will break my fucking face on the car horn.
Now the guy doesn't recognize me yet, but I know who he is. He is a low level drug dealer from a pretty bad area in another part of town. I tell him I don't want to get my face smashed and I should introduce myself.
I say my name is XXX XXX, I think we might have met before though, are you from X town? He says yes and I ask if my last name sounds familiar. The expression on his face changes quickly, I have a family member who used to be the head of the largest criminal organization in the area. I told him I would make him a deal, I won't tell my family member you are at my house threatening me and you ask your parents to take a more common sense approach regarding the noise.
Now we sleep in on weekends and never hear the dog barking. Since I am not an asshole I no longer am loud late at night. This winter the husband snow blowed our part of the driveway every time it snowed.
