Where can the line between 'Discipline' and 'Child Abuse' be drawn?

We actually live near Manchester. The north is odd. It’s a cluster of all classes mixed tightly together. We are middle class but are about 5 mins from lower class but I’ve never seen any child get smacked or hit or anything before.

My stepdad was not reported. But he never touched me again. He was young, from a very wealthy family and threw his weight around to feel big. He wasn’t a nice person and was incredibly invasive in my teen years (he was my step dad from 4-17years old) he doesn’t get to see my daughter.

My sister in law. To be honest we leave them to it. We have all at times told them both they need to intervene with their children but they have 5 in a 2 bedroom house! But it falls on deaf ears. She thinks they’re angels. I bet behind closed doors they get shouted at. I’ve heard the dad shout but it’s the false threats.

Also yes in the 90s, 80s and 70s beatings were super common!!!! My mum in school got it bad from teachers!
