Who do you contact in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to get actual information?

You can get the phone number. Call it and wait for awhile to get an operator who will answer your question. Unless it is a question they can. Usually they cannot answer specific questions so they will refer to another number, where you will get a recorded message about how they care for vets while you wait on hold for that person to finally answer. I have waited for up to 40 minutes for a person to come the phone. After that person answers you can ask your question. This person is more knowledgeable about who knows what within the system and will refer you to the person who can actually answer your question. After you call this third person and wait for an answer to the phone, you can usually leave your number and they will call you back with a few hours instead of waiting on the phone. Anyway after they answer they will usually refer you to a doctor who will screen you and evaluate you and then refer you to a specialist, I:e: Dermatology, Optomotry, Orthopedics, etc etc. It usually takes about a month waiting for your first screening appointment After you get blood and urine tested and a short visit with a resident doctor, usually an intern who isn't there longer thatn two years before moving on to a real job somewhere, who listen to your heart and lungs and look into your eyes ears and nose. Will ask you what is bugging you booby? and then will refer you to the aforementioned specialty. The wait for dermatology is up to 2 months now at the VA I go to. Or they will offer to pay for a visit with a local hospital or clinic not the VA. Haha. This requires a whole nother group of requirements to arrange, so I usually just stay within the VA system, but I use the word (system) loosely.

If anyone is interested I will continue. This VA is really an adventure in frustration........
