We will never get realistic cultural representation. Never.

Why are you even assuming that I'm white and an American lol

I personally love it when I get represented well in a fantasy world. I thought I didn't care for most of the time... until I saw it done well once. I love Samira from League of Legends. They took the cultural inspiration from the real world and represented it well in a fantasy world. And I personally liked that they went for a darker skin tone there (and also, they've made her a badass independent women, which many movies/games fail to do properly)

Now would I feel mad or attacked if it wasn't done well in Genshin? Not necessarily... but definitely disappointed, as they did a good job with representing the values of Mondstadt, Liyue and Inazuma. I would not feel represented at all if they simply made 90% of all Sumeru cast white.

This move would also ethically be questionable, given that in many Asian countries having a dark skin colour is being perceived as ugly/dirty by many people. So making the characters white possibly for the sake of profit from racism... is very bad. I personally have knowledge about the marketing department of a few bigger companies (even from Asia). They often do that kind of stuff for the sake of profit, e.g. not using Asian models in the European market since people don't seem to like it in Europe. Or another example is not showing solidarity for the LGBTQ+ in Arabic countries by not changing their flags on Twitter. It might not seem like a relevant gesture for most of the population, but it's a big gesture for the people that are affected by it.

There's hope though. One of the leaked characters is Dehya, which is the only leaked playable one with a dark skin tone from Sumeru (so far). And it's the character that I'm being excited most about, partly due to design and also partly due to skin colour. That character shows how it should be done.
