Wiseman Centre: Step inside a St. John's homeless shelter

When I was younger, I was approached by a man while I was pumping gas at 11 pm. He said he had gotten off the bus at Crossroads and was lost on his way to the Wiseman Center.

He was obviously homeless, and definitely sketchy. He asked for a ride the rest of the way and I, a dumbass, said sure.

I drove him from the Esso in Paradise to what I assumed would be the Wiseman center. I had no idea where it was so he was directing me.

We were driving down Topsail road when we saw 3 or 4 cop cars in a parking lot with their lights on, to which he said something along the lines of "fuck there's the cops" and slithered down into the seat. At this point the reality of my dumbassery set in.

Before I knew it, he said the Wiseman center was just up ahead. I came to a stop on Queen Street, right at the end of George.

He said thanks for the ride and hopped out, and without missing a beat walked right inside of the Cotton Club.

He didn't even wait like 15 seconds for me to drive away first.

No idea why I wrote this, I guess hearing about the Wiseman Center just brought the memory back to me.
