I wish more people would understand how disabling DID is

You are me.

I just wanted to tell you to have hope.

A few years ago I was in your position. Only I knew I had DID and my then therapist told me it was BPD and Bipolar II. Then I got referred to by a major hospital’s IOP to a trauma therapy center I’d never heard of.

Within 6 months, I was diagnosed with PTSD and DID. That was less that 3 years ago now. I’ve been working with their therapists ever since. I didn’t expect to every find someone who would diagnose me, nevermind know how to treat DID, but I did. The clinic isn’t listed on the ISSTD site or Psychology Today but they are pretty well affiliated with Yale and that’s good enough for me.

Keep looking on google. For therapists offices near you at all, not in the “typical” places. Something could pop up.

And if it does, start applying to get assistance as quickly as you can. Talk to the office manager of the practice and ask if they have a sliding scale. Talk to your insurance and ask if you have out of network benefits. Ask if they can make an exception. Explain the situation. Fight like hell for this. Don’t give up without a fight.

You never know what can happen.
