'Woke up sweating': Texas power companies remotely raise temperatures on people using their smart thermostats — corporate power

They give me a 1:1 credit 364 days out of the year. I give them a unit of power, they give me a unit of power. If I use more energy than I have credits I pay the same rate as everyone else. They also always bill me for the standard maintenance and other fees every month. The issue is that they force me to cash out my balance for cash instead of credits every year right before the peak season begins. They do this so every July 1st when it’s hot as Hell I have 0 credits and I will be forced to pay them for energy. That’s what I take issue with. They are gaming the system by cashing me out at the start of summer. They don’t cash me out at the end of summer because they know my solar system can easily generate enough power to build ample credits so that I won’t have to pay them for any electricity I use. It’s shady business.
