Do I have to worry about licensing or trademarks or anything if I want to sell paintings of fictional characters?

I'm just basing it off the experience I had a few years ago with Disneys IP lawyer. I was selling a crocheted outfit of baby Yoda as a photography prop for newborns, it was titled and tagged baby Yoda, they flagged it, etsy removed it and sent me their email with the takedown info. I reached out to the ip lawyer that had it taken down to ask about licensing and copyright, and buying a license because I was naive and she told me I could sell it, but I couldn't use Disneys trademarks, so technically I was able to re-list it as "crochet baby space alien photo prop outfit" just couldn't use baby Yoda anymore, she was actually super nice and very informative. Have you had an experience like that? If so how did it go? Just basing my answer off my life experiences as a multiple etsy shop seller since 2012.
