[WP] You have two watches, one counts down to the moment you meet your soulmate, the other counts down to when you die, today they are to hit zero at the same time.

Today was it. The day I'm going to meet my soulmate. I had prepared a fine suit and a reservation to the most highbrow restaurant in the city for the occasion. What would she look like, I wonder? What would she be like? Most of my admittedly few friends' watches had been quite generous to them, providing them with very attractive and dependable partners for life. Still, though, it wasn't uncommon for perfectly good men and women to inexplicably get paired with bridge trolls or old hags. The partnership is optional, of course, but I always believed that whatever the watch indicates, it was for a reason.

There are two watches that are gifted around the teenage years when you're "ready" for them. The watch that tightly constricted my wrist at the moment revealed the time that you would meet your ideal partner. The other, the "death watch" as it's called, tells you when you'll die. As many do, I opted out of ever laying my eyes on this one. It is a highly depressing object with little means of redemption, and has caused incredible distress and even madness to the people that do decide to wear it.

I decided to walk through the city to my favorite cafe. I had a good feeling about going there to meet her. Besides, if the watch guarantees the time I'll meet the person, that means that the terms of where we meet are entirely on our judgment!

The warmth of sunlight permeated my skin as I walked with a spring in my step through the streets of the urban landscape. The few trees that did flourish seemed greener, the sky more open with bright blue, and every stress and problem in my life began to evaporate away into the air. I was never the kind of person that had a lot of real friends, or just people to talk to about things that had a little more depth than "Hey, you see the game last night?"

That was all about to change. In 30 measly seconds I'll make the last stride through Main Street to the cafe and I'll meet her. I squinted my eyes to look inside the dimly lit establishment, but I didn't see any surefire candidate.

I only took a few steps out to cross the road when I heard it. Tires screeched as time began to slow down to nothing. I turned my head and saw the most beautiful idiot of a driver I've ever seen, perhaps in a hurry to meet her watch-mate.

My slow motion perception of the idiot, apparently my soulmate, began to fade, and the vehicle suddenly regained its speed toward its destiny. Terrified, the sight of the rogue vehicle paralyzed my legs, but my mouth worked just fine.

I roared "YOU STUPID BITC-" and I felt the monster of a vehicle connect with my body, as I get thrown like a ragdoll to some unknown place as my mind fades to black.
