This is the problem I have with all you fresh out of msf course novice riders preaching atgatt. Yes you are very lucky to have came out relativity ok. Yes your gear spared you quite a bit of additional injures but other then your helmet it a stretch saying that it actually saved your life. Dont go around telling people "wear all your gear! atgatt it will save your life!". This gives new riders false confidence that results in people being injured or killed because they think the gear theyre wearing will keep them safe. Riding motorcycles is dangerous and we need to teach proper riding techniques to prevent accidents, not piling on gear so you get less road rash because you were riding over your head. You rode with people who are more skilled than you on an unfamiliar route and it bit you in the ass. You let false confidence get to you. Yes your accident may have been cause by a road hazard that you couldnt have controlled but what you could have controlled is riding in a manner that gave you time to adjust for hazards in blind corners. Your gear helped you in the fall but the fall was caused by your novice riding ability. Your title suggest that everything is A OK because you were atgatt but you are still a novice and still at risk because of it. Im in no way happy you wrecked and wish the best for your recovery but do not tell people that your gear saved your life. I will always advocate wearing a helmet because that is the single peace of gear that CAN and WILL save your life. To wrap this rant up you should wear gear if it makes you happy but thats a personal choice you need to keep to yourself. Dont shame fellow riders who chose to wear little to no gear. Motorcycles are extremely dangerous and wearing gear does not make you safe from that.
TL;DR If wearing gear makes you happy by all mean wear it. But dont preach that is saved your life. What is entirley more important thatn gear is riding within your ability and understanding that a bike can and will get you killed gear or not.
Disclaimer. If you wear gear that is great and I dont judge you. If you wear gear and preach that is the only way you should ride and judge other riders because they dont you are a dick and not a true rider.
