To young girls who are or have been with an older married man: let's talk about trauma

He wasn't significantly older than me, he was 21, I was 17, but he was my youth leader at church. We only dated for 2 months, and then stayed "friends" for 4 years afterwards. But during those 4 years he told me constantly that he would never love someone as much as me, that I was "the one that got away", that he would settle for a friendship, but still loved me so much. I told him to stop, I told him I was dating other people, I even told him I was a lesbian! He kept telling me he loved me, even when he was finally dating another woman (who was married herself). Finally cut off contact a year ago, with the promise that one day I would reach out again, but I don't think I ever will.

But despite that, I'm now in a very happy relationship with a man 13 years older than me. We have a very equal and happy relationship and I hope that we have decades ahead of us.
