This is gonna be pretty unpopular (perhaps rightly so), but I have been considering having the option of doctor assisted neonaticide (killing the newborn right after it's born). I'm not going to say that other peoples moral reaction to this is wrong, but I am not strongly opposed to it for the following reasons.

Potential Benefits

• This allows the "financial abortion" option open without leaving behind a child that needs assistance.
• If one parent wants to take care of the child and the other doesn't want to assist the single parent can opt to take care of it without assistance or.
• Doesn't violate the bodily autonomy of the mother.

Moral Justification (Again, just my opinion)

• We kill animals that are more intelligent and social than newborns for worse reasons than to prevent a life without adequate assistance.
• If preformed by doctors the procedure could prevent unneeded suffering.
• There are already no restrictions on abortions up until birth in my country (Canada).

Potential Downsides

• Opening up the possibility of selection based on sex (this can already happen with current technology).

• Morality of such a procedure.

• Potential mental heath effects on parents.

Anyway, this will likely never happen because of the sensibilities of people. So it's more of a moral thought experiment than anything real.
